Annie Sanchez is a trusted, care-centered leader, culture builder and change maker.
Her work is rooted in three distinct practices: community building, multidisciplinary strategy, and courageous imagination. What ties them together is care. Care as the foundation through which she leads, teaches, lives, and moves through the world.
Most recently, Sanchez built and ran Mariposa Strategies, a boutique leadership and personal development company centering sensitive-identifying, justice-oriented leaders, people of color, and non-conforming teams in their vital roles in society through strategic thought partnership, coaching, and community-building. Here she advised hundreds of artists, movement builders, nonprofit and philanthropy leaders across the US to help them realize ambitious ideas.
She built a successful company from the ground up with a beloved national membership program, myriad marketing strategies and campaigns, leveraging digital and traditional media, and delivering transformative services for organizational change, team conflict, restorative care, and personal growth.
Before that, she was Executive Director of the Center for Nonprofit Excellence (now Groundworks New Mexico), New Mexico’s largest nonprofit capacity-building organization, where she drove business planning, strategic marketing campaigns, and cultivated partnerships to support the organization’s next chapter. She worked closely with leaders in the nonprofit, philanthropy and government sectors to galvanize collective change in New Mexico.
Sanchez was co-founder of the statewide fundraising initiative, Giving Tuesday NM, and fundraising co-chair of Planned Parenthood of New York City’s Activist Council.
Presently, she serves as a culture advisor to Working Classroom. Previously she served on the advisory board of Building Movement Project, as an advisor to artists and small business owners through several entrepreneurial initiatives with the City of Albuquerque’s Arts & Culture Department and Roanhorse Consulting.
Raised in Santa Fe, she pursued a BFA in art studio at the University of New Mexico, later received a certificate in fundraising from New York University, and has lived in LA, Brooklyn, and Honolulu.
Annie currently lives in New Mexico and will be relocating to Oakland in 2026.
